Katharine Birbalsingh has been teaching in the state school system in London for over a decade. Her dream is for all schools to become interesting and exciting places of learning, where children feel safe, happy and free to aim to be the best that they can be.
Children should be challenged to achieve all that they can and should be rewarded when they do. She wants the children in her care to have a sense of responsibility, to have a sense of ownership of their school, their lives, and their futures.
Katharine has held a number of leadership roles in schools. She has appeared on TV, radio and in the newspapers, detailing her views on the changes needed in the education system.
In her last post as Deputy Head, Katharine demonstrated her commitment to improving education by accepting an invitation to speak at the Conservative Party conference.
Katharine’s book, To Miss With Love, outlines many of her experiences teaching in inner-city schools, and attempts to address the issue of why so many kids leave the state education system with so little. To Miss With Love is available now, in the shops and at online retailers such as Amazon.
